Profile

Dr. Xiao-Ming Li is a “Changjiang” Scholar Distinguished Professor and PI at Institute of Neuroscience of Zhejiang University School of Medicine and the professor at the university of Toronto. He earned the M.D. from First Military Medical University in 1996 and Ph.D. in 2003. He worked as a Resident Physician, Attending Physician at Hospital of Chinese People's Liberation Army during 1996-2004. He got his postdoctoral training at Dept. of Neurology, Medical College of Georgia, USA during 2005-2007. After that, he worded as an Assistant Research Scientist at Institute of Molecular Medicine and Genetics,Medical College of Georgia, USA from 2007-2008. In August, 2008, he joined Zhejiang University. Now he is the Executive Vice-Dean of Zhejiang University School of Medicine, the Executive Director of Institute of Neuroscience of Zhejiang University and the Director of the Brain Center of Affiliated Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, also the General Secretary of Zhejiang Society for Neuroscience.

Prof. Li’ main research interest is to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying the formation, maintenance and regulation of synapses and neural circuits, in identifying targets to develop therapeutic strategies for treating neuropsychiatric disorders including schizophrenia, autism, and epilepsy. He has made important achievements in the field of the development and molecular regulation of synapses and circuits, especially in the pathogenesis of schizophrenia and epilepsy. His representative papers have been published on“Nature Neuroscience”,“Cell Research”,“elife”,“Journal of Neuroscience”, “Cerebral cortex” and so on. His research supports include Distinguished Young Scholars, National Natural Science Foundation of China; National Key Basic Research Developing Project, 973 project and so on.
