Profile

Dr. Wei Liu was appointed a Professor of Cell Biology at Zhejiang University School of Medicine in 2007. Dr. Liu earned his M.D. from the Fourth Military Medical University in 1987, and received his Ph.D.from Nagoya University (Japan) in 1998. His postdoctoral research in Department of Immunology,Nagoya University was immediately followed by an appointment as Assistant Professor at Aichi Medical University (Japan) in 1999. He then worked in Jennifer Lippincott-Schwartz's lab at NIH as a visiting fellow and research fellow from 2001-2007.

Wei's group is interested in the molecular mechanisms underlying the structure and function of endomembrane system. By analyzing protein and organelle dynamics, they are relating the endomembranes to important cell physiological/pathological processes. Currently, they focus on the molecular cell mechanisms and functions of autophagy, the lysosome-dependent cell degradation pathway.
