Professor Xu is the associate dean of school of medicine, associate dean of undergraduate school, the Yangtze River Scholar Distinguished Professor of the Ministry of Education and winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars.
Dr. Xu has served as surgeon for 20 years in the Department of Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Surgery at The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine. As the executive deputy Director of the Research Institute for Organ Transplantation of Zhejiang University, his main research interests focus on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), liver transplantation for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and molecular subtyping of hepato-pancreato-biliary malignancies. Dr. Xu’s major scientific findings are listed as following (1) Establishing a new molecular stratification system for HCC recipient selection and prognosis prediction in liver transplantation, which provides a precise molecular classification for HCC. (2) Elucidating the important alerting roles of donor genes on recipients’ metabolic disorders and tumor recurrence. (3) Constructing a novel high-efficient nanomaterial-based drug delivery system for HCC targeted therapy, enabling development of new therapeutic strategy.
Dr. Xu has published over 100 papers in SCI journals. As one of the major contributors, he has received several awards including the National Innovation Team Award for Scientific and Technological Progress (2015), the First-class and Second-class Prize of National Scientific and Technological Progress Awards in 2013 and 2008. Dr. Xu serves as reviewer of Natural Science Foundation and National Science and Technology Major Project of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China. For his outstanding work, he was elected as the Vice President, the Chinese Society of Organ Transplantation, the Vice President, the Chinese College of Transplant Doctors, the Vice President, the Society of Cancer Precision Medicine, China Anti-Cancer Association and the President, the Society of Precision Medicine, Anti-Cancer Association of Zhejiang province.
