Teaching Facilities

Zijingang is a beautiful and picturesque campus occupying a total area of over 3,300 hectares, which features modern, digitalized teaching facilities. The New Faculty of Medicine is located in the south-west part of Zijingang Campus. With over 80,000 square meters modern buildings, spacious medical library, well-equipped laboratories and animal house, students enjoy learning in a unified and stimulating environment. 
The seven affiliated hospitals are the main teaching hospitals for the School of Medicine. They provide full ranges of medical services in almost all the major specialties and subspecialties. In addition, there are 24 other hospitals in Zhejiang and Shanghai engaged in teaching.

Highlights

MD/PhD Combined Program: Launched in 2004, this program is designed for, and open to, students with a 4-year bachelor degree from various non-medicine majors. The purpose of this program is to produce top-notch medical talents with solid foundation, overall medical knowledge, excellent clinical skills and medical research capacities.
“Eight consistent years, two complete “ Medical Doctor Program: This program was carried out in 2005. It takes “to lay a solid foundation for the growth of outstanding talents” as the purpose, aims to cultivate future leaders with generous basis, superb knowledge, ability and quality, rich innovative spirit and ability, international vision and lasting competitiveness in the medicine and related fields. It adopted the conventions from the US: students are required to get a 4-year non-medicine bachelor degree before entering 4-year medical training. 
“Block-based” 8-year new curriculum: The new curriculum was implemented in 2009. It learns to some reference beneficial experiences of medical education in North America. A human system-based, case-driven, block-based pioneering curriculum is designed, which covers medicine, public health, arts, society and ethnics block courses and strengthens self-directed lifelong learning. “Clerkship” clinical teaching: In 2006,ZUSM replaced “teaching-centered teaching” with new “bedside- centered teaching”, “bedside observer teaching” with “patient’s whole treatment involvement teaching”, “knowledge memory and accumulation teaching” with “competency-based teaching”. This teaching model not only makes students be exposed to clinic earlier and longer, have contact with patients more extensively and effectively, and master basic clinical knowledge and skills more flexibly; but also cultivate self-study consciousness and capacity, social cognition, communication, teamwork and other comprehensive qualities, all of which can help students to enhance good professional attitudes and values.
