Dr. Mei Tian is a full professor of diagnostics imaging and nuclear medicine, the Vice President of Zhejiang University Medical Center and the Vice President of Hangzhou Riverside Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine. (Zhejiang University is one of the top-3 university in China). Dr. Tian has 20 years post-MD training and practice in radiology, nuclear medicine and molecular imaging, served in academic positions as a clinical fellow at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute / Brigham and Women`s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, an Assistant Professor at MD Anderson Cancer Center, and a Distinguished Professor of nuclear medicine and molecular imaging granted by the Ministry of Education of China. Prof. Tian has spent 12 years for her professional training and working experience in USA and Japan.
Prof. Tian’s group focuses on the molecular imaging with a particular emphasis on human major diseases. Her current research interests include molecular imaging of central nerve system (CNS) diseases & psychiatric disorders, imaging-based stem cell therapy for stroke, development of novel imaging strategies for a better understanding of underlying mechanism of brain. Prof. Tian’s group has developed precision PET imaging approach on pediatric epilepsy and MRI-negative pre-operative epilepsy. Furthermore, Prof. Tian’s group has extended their research on brain-machine interface (BMI), internet gaming disorder (IGD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), etc., and continually to develop big data-based smart diagnosis for neuro-psychiatric disorders, including AD, PD and others. Her group also develops novel molecular imaging agents or smart probes for precision theranostics.
She has made innovative and original contributions to the field of medical imaging, published extensively in international journals, such as JNM, EJNMMI, PNAS, ACS Nano, Advanced Functional Materials, Biomaterials, Neuroimage, Science Translational Medicine, Clinical Cancer Research, etc., and won scholastic and scientific awards, such as National Distinguished Women Scientist Award, National Distinguished Young Scientist Award, Merit Award (RSNA), International Young Investigator Grant (RSNA), International Development and Education Grant (ASCO), Asian and Oceanian Distinguished Young Investigator Award (JSNM), JSPS fellowship (JSPS) for her extraordinary accomplishments.
Prof. Tian is the co-founder of the nuclear medicine and molecular imaging center at Zhejiang University, who set up one of the largest and comprehensive training programs of molecular imaging in China. Now serving as the Vice President of Zhejiang University Medical Center, Prof. Tian is the co-founder and Vice President responsible for establishing a brand new “smart” hospital and a well-equipped research facility which will lead the medical service, education and research in China for next decades.
In the past years, Prof. Tian has received many national major grants from the Ministry of Education (MOE), the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and the National Science Foundation of China (NSFC) including the A3 foresight program grant, which is the core grant for international education and collaboration among China, Japan and Korea (A3), to setup a world-class research hub within the Asian Region, which will foster the next generation of talented young researcher in the field of molecular imaging.
Prof. Tian serves as the Regional Editor of the Molecular Imaging and Biology, the nominating committee member of WMIS, session chairs of various categories in each year, and contributed a lot of time and efforts to the WMIS. As the Vice President of the Chinese Society of Molecular Imaging (CSMI), Association of Science and Technology of Zhejiang, Prof. Tian has made significant contribution to the field of molecular imaging in China and Asia. Furthermore, she is the founder and the President of the Hangzhou International Molecular Imaging Conference (HIMIC), which has been recognized as one of the most important international platform for communications and collaborations in Asia. In addition, Prof. Tian also serves the associate editor or editorial board members of the official journals of the WMIS, SNMMI, EANM, BSNM and JSNM, and the editorial consultant of The LANCET.
