Xiao-Ming Li’s lab demonstrates the development pattern of cortical inhibitory circuits

The development of cortical inhibitory circuits is closely associated with neuropsychiatric disease as schizophrenia. But the understanding of this process is still limited. Dr. Li’s lab applies multiple tools like genetic, electrophysiology and morphology methods to investigate the early development and foundation of inhibitory circuits of mice prefrontal cortex especially mediated by parvalbumin-positive fast-spiking interneurons. They found the development of FS interneuronal microcircuits lasted through out early adulthood. Also indicate an independent development of electrical and chemical synapses among FS interneuronal networks during the early period. Their findings had been published on the Cerebral Cortex.
