Women's Hospital, School of Medicine, Zhejiang University, also called Zhejiang Women's Health Hospital, is the center for obstetrics and gynecology, teaching, scientific research, family planning and women's health care for Zhejiang Province. The hospital was established in 1951. It has 750 adult beds and 200 infant beds and more than 1000 staff members, including 140 senior doctors (professors, chief physicians, associate professors or associate-chief physicians). It treats about 91,900 outpatients and 27,000 inpatients each year. The hospital serves as a base for master and doctorate degree programs, and post-doctor research in obstetrics and gynecology. The hospital includes seven separate departments: gynecology, Gynecologic Oncology, Reproductive Endocrinology, Obstetrics, Neonatology, Family Planning and Women's Health. Some of them are recognized throughout China as centers of excellence. Within there departments are four centers: Reproductive Medicine Center, Prenatal Diagnosis Center, Fetal Medicine Center and Cervical Diseases Center of Zhejiang Province. The hospital also has a research institutes: Obstetrics, Gynecology and Family Planning Institute of Zhejiang University, and a research laboratory: Women's Reproductive Health Laboratory of Zhejiang Province.

The hospital treats all types of Gynecologic malignancies, with the full range of treatment options including surgery, chemotherapy, biotherapy and radiation oncology. Therefore care can be individualized for each patient's needs. Our results of treatment are as good or better than anywhere in China and considered world class. Many gynecological diseases are diagnosed and treated by means of laparoscopy, hysteroscopy and colposcopy in the hospital. The hospital is prominent in the study of endometriosis, gynecologic plastic surgery, gynecologic urology, and breast disease.

Prenatal-medicine is carried out in Obstetrics and Neonatology departments. Great achievements have been made in the research areas of pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH), fetal growth restriction (FGR), intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP), haematologic and cardiovascular diseases in pregnancy, gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), delivery monitoring, painless delivery and so on. The successful survival rate in the department of neonatology for very low and extremely low birth weight infants is at an advanced level. It has set the records of neonate survival for shortest gestational age and lowest birth weight infant in China.

The Department of Reproductive Endocrinology has been successful in treating infertility with drugs, artificial insemination, IVF-ET, ICSI, PGD. It is one of the first institutes authorized to carry out all ART techniques programs by Minister of Public Health of China. The pregnancy rate has reached an advanced level in China. The Department of Family Planning has long engaged with intrauterine contraceptive devices and contraceptive pills and complications of family planning, and has achieved satisfactory results.

The hospital has established academic and cooperative relations with hospitals in more than 10 countries, including the United States, Japan, Germany, Australia, United Kingdom, Singapore, and Sweden. Since 2000, the hospital has established a sister hospital relationship with Mater Mother's Hospital, Queensland, Australia. According to the progress of the scientific development of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the hospital regularly sends doctors abroad to do research and training. At the same time, it receives foreign experts to come to the hospital to give lectures and exchanges, appointing well-known experts from England, Australia and America as guest professors. They have introduced foreign advanced diagnostic concepts and technologies, and promoted further advancement of the hospital.
